Home Charger Installation

common customer concerns regarding home EV charger installations in the UAE.

The right power depends on your vehicle’s onboard charger and your home’s electrical supply:

  • 7kW: Ideal for standard villas with single-phase power; it fully charges most EVs overnight (6–12 hours).

  • 11kW: Best for homes with three-phase power; it offers faster charging for compatible vehicles.

  • 22kW: The fastest AC option but primarily used for commercial sites or high-demand residential needs; it requires three-phase power and a vehicle capable of accepting this speed.

Yes. In the UAE, official notification or approval is necessary to ensure grid safety and compliance:

  • Dubai (DEWA): Installations must follow DEWA EV Green Charger guidelines and be performed by approved contractors. Approval is Optional ( subjected to site situation )

  • Abu Dhabi (TAQA/ADDC): A licensed contractor must file a drawing approval and obtain formal approval before installation.

  • Private Installation services are available for All the emirates subjected to site situation.
  • Sharjah (SEWA): Approval is not mandatory

A load assessment evaluates your property’s existing electrical demand to ensure it can safely handle the extra power required by an EV charger. EVSHIELD specialists identify your main breaker rating and existing loads (HVAC, lighting) to prevent dangerous panel overloading

Safe installation depends on proper cable sizing based on the charger’s power rating and distance from the electrical panel:

  • For 7kW chargers, a minimum 6mm² copper cable is typically required for surface runs.

  • For 11kW or 22kW chargers, thicker cables (6mm² to 10mm²) are necessary to prevent overheating and voltage drops.

  • We use IP65/IP66-rated weatherproof cabling and fittings for all outdoor installations.

Yes. If you do not own the property or if it is managed by a developer, you must obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC):

  • Landlord NOC: Required for tenants in villas or apartments.

  • Developer/Management NOC: Required for installations in shared parking spaces or community buildings.

During our complimentary site survey, a technician will:

  1. Assess your electrical panel’s capacity and parking situation.

  2. Determine the best location for the charger and the cable route.

  3. Provide a bespoke installation plan and a detailed cost estimate within 48 hours.

Absolutely. Unlicensed installations can lead to fire hazards, equipment damage, and legal fines. EVSHIELD ensures every circuit has proper RCD protection (Type A or B), surge protectors, and grounding according to UAE safety codes.

Commercial EV Charging Installation

Malls, School, hotels, Residential Tower, fleets, and developers

Commercial sites typically require a mix based on “dwell time” (how long a car stays parked):

  • AC Destination Chargers (22kW): Best for workplaces, hotels, and residential buildings where cars park for 4+ hours.

  • DC Fast Chargers (60kW – 180kW): Essential for retail hubs, service stations, and fleet depots. They provide an 80% charge in 30–60 minutes.

  • Ultra-Fast DC (240kW – 360kW): Ideal for heavy-duty fleets and highway mobility hubs requiring rapid turnover.

As of late 2024, any commercial entity in Dubai that provides public charging (free or paid) must be registered as an Independent Charge Point Operator (CPO). EVSHIELD manages this entire licensing journey, ensuring your hardware is integrated with the DEWA regulatory framework and compliant with the 2024 Unified Charging Tariff.

Commercial assessments are significantly more complex. We perform a Holistic Load Analysis that factors in:

  • Peak summer demand (maximum HVAC usage).

  • Existing industrial machinery or elevators.

  • Dynamic Load Balancing: We implement smart software that shifts power between chargers in real-time, preventing expensive panel upgrades and avoiding grid “Demand Charges.”

Yes. For commercial installations, authorities typically require a separate EV meter. This allows for transparent billing under the unified tariff (e.g., 30 fils per kWh in Abu Dhabi). We coordinate with ADDC/AADC or DEWA to manage the “Additional Meter Request,” including the civil works and cabling required for the new connection.

To secure a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a commercial site, we prepare a comprehensive submission package:

  • Single Line Diagrams (SLD) and load schedules.

  • Site Layout Plans showing ADA (accessibility) compliance.

  • Technical data sheets of authority-approved equipment.

  • Contractor trade licenses and safety certifications.

Absolutely. By integrating an OCPP-compliant management system, you can set your own service fees (within regulated limits), track usage, and offer guest access via mobile apps or RFID. We provide the CPO support needed to manage billing, reporting, and 24/7 driver assistance.

Commercial chargers are high-use assets. In the UAE, we strictly enforce:

  • IP65/IP67 Ingress Protection against fine desert dust and humidity.

  • IK10 Impact Rating to protect against vandalism or accidental bumps in high-traffic parking.

  • Custom EV Shades: We highly recommend our customized parking shades to prevent hardware de-rating (slowing down) during peak afternoon heat.

Safety is a legal liability for businesses. Our AMC services include:

  • Six-monthly physical audits: Torque testing and cable integrity checks.

  • Thermal Imaging: Identifying potential hot spots in the electrical panel before they fail.

  • Software Updates: Ensuring your CPO network remains secure and compatible with new EV models.
